St. Louis business contest kicks off

The second annual St. Louis Regional Business Plan Competition launched Tuesday, giving entrepreneurs a shot at $100,000 in cash prizes.

First place is $50,000 and 90 hours of in-kind legal, marketing and accounting services. Second place is $30,000 and 75 hours of services. Third place is $20,000 and 60 hours of services.

The contest is being held to promote entrepreneurship and the development of startup and early-stage companies in the region. Applications and rules are found online.

This is the second year of a three-year deal in which St. Louis financial services firm Edward Jones is sponsoring the competition.

St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley and Edward Jones Managing Partner Jim Weddle will officially celebrate the start of this year's contest at an event Tuesday afternoon.
