A trade and economic delegation from Shanghai, China, is coming to St. Louis this weekend to visit several local companies and learn more about investment opportunities.
The delegation members are with Chinese President Hu Jintao in Chicago but after he leaves, they will come to St. Louis to visit Express Scripts, Emerson and Savvis, said Tim Nowak, executive director of the World Trade Center in St. Louis.
Yang Quoqiang, consul general of the People's Republic of China in Chicago, will lead the delegation, which also includes Sha Hailin, deputy secretary general, Shanghai Municipal People's Government.
As part of the trip, the World Trade Center, St. Louis Regional Chamber and Growth Association and the Shanghai Foreign Overseas Investment Development Board will sign a Memorandum of Understanding of mutual cooperation on investment and trade.
"This highlights the fact that the profile of St. Louis on the international scale has risen quite a bit," Nowak said.
Nowak, along with Richard Fleming, the outgoing president and CEO of the RCGA; St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay; and St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley, are expected to attend the agreement signing Saturday evening at The Four Seasons St. Louis.
Earlier this week, Chinese officials said they picked China Eastern Airlines as the carrier that will begin talks with Lambert airport officials about establishing cargo flights.
