The vacant Chrysler Plant and surrounding area would become an expanded enterprise zone under legislation to be introduced Thursday by State Senator Eric Schmitt and Representative Mike Leara.
Fenton Mayor Dennis Hancock is encouraged:
"For the Chrysler site specifically, we're very interested in looking at some sort of mixed use development that would include some light assembly businesses, even some small to medium size industrial type companies" said Mayor Hancock.
The announcement will come in a 3 P.M. news conference at Fenton City Hall.
An expanded enterprise zone would allow for tax credits and property tax relief for businesses.
"I hope they (Sen. Schmitt and Rep. Leara) are very successful in getting this through." said Mayor Hancock "I think it takes a lot of courage on their part and certainly they're going to be using up some political capital."
