Zhou Wenzhong, the ambassador for the People's Republic of China to the United States, was scheduled to visit Jefferson City today, according to an announcement by the office of Gov. Jay Nixon.

"The ambassador is visiting St. Louis and Jefferson City to continue discussions about establishing a Midwest-China hub in St. Louis," said a spokesman for Nixon's office. Nixon and the ambassador had scheduled an afternoon news conference in the governor's office in the state Capitol.

Attempts to learn more about the visit from the Chinese Embassy in Washington, D.C., were unsuccessful this morning. As proposed, the Midwest-China hub would act as an air cargo clearinghouse between the two countries and would be located at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport.
