Misouri Gov. Jay Nixon plans to meet today with Zhou Wenzhong, ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the United States.
A news conference is scheduled for 4:45 p.m. in Jefferson City.
St. Louis officials are working to make the region a trade hub with China.
To further those efforts, U.S. Sen. Kit Bond, R-Mo., visited China last month. Top-level Chinese officials assured Bond on his trip there that they consider establishing a trade hub in Missouri a priority but want Chinese airlines involved in the discussions.
Chinese officials were pleased to hear the details of plans to build $40 million in cargo facilities at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport, Bond said.
