JEFFERSON CITY, MO (KBIA) - China's ambassador to the United States is visiting Missouri's capital city, as part of an effort by state leaders to designate St. Louis as a major air cargo hub between the two countries. Zhou Wenzhong met with Governor Jay Nixon Monday, who told reporters that the proposed air hub would benefit the entire Midwest as well as Missouri.

"We're centrally located in the United States we're in a unique opportunity to be with the growing, emerging economy, fast growing economy of China, to be the leading spot for exporting Missouri goods and opening up trade opportunities both ways."

The 40-million-dollar project includes plans to expand air cargo facilities at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport. Today (Tuesday), the ambassador is scheduled to meet with Lt. Governor Peter Kinder and legislative leaders.
