JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri officials are meeting with the Chinese ambassador to continue toward developing a trade hub at the St. Louis airport.
Missouri officials hope to expand trade ties with China and develop a trade center for the whole Midwest at Lambert Airport. The airport has a terminal that is largely unused and a runway completed in 2006.
Gov. Jay Nixon was hosting the Chinese ambassador at the Governor's Mansion on Monday. Previously, Nixon had met with Chinese officials at their embassy in Washington. Nixon says the trade hub in St. Louis would create jobs and help Missouri businesses market goods in China.
Chinese Ambassador Zhou Wenzhong (ZJOE'-WHEN'-ZHONG') says he hopes to develop a strong partnership between Missouri and China.
