Region's newest casino opens to public today

St. Louis Post-Dispatch
March 4, 2010

Today at 2 p.m. is the official opening time for the new River City Casino in south St. Louis County.

The 90,000 square foot facility will be the seventh casino in the St. Louis region and the second opened by Pinnacle in a little more than two years.

The Las Vegas-based gaming company spent $357 million on the place, which is located in Lemay just south of the mouth of the River Des Peres on the old National Lead site.

It will have more than 2,000 slot machines and about 55 table games. Pinnacle expects to employ about 1,200 people there, and has been advertising heavily for River City jobs in recent weeks.

It will also give Pinnacle, a relative newcomer to St. Louis, three casinos in the region, making them perhaps the market's strongest player.
