Possible Panera tax abatement

St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley on Tuesday asked the County Council to provide $130,000 in tax abatement to help Panera LLC, the corporate parent of the St. Louis Bread Co. restaurants, to move its headquarters to Sunset Hills from Richmond Heights. The company plans to move to 90,000 square feet at 3630 South Geyer Road in the Laumeier office complex. It has run out of space at its headquarters and also wants to consolidate, a fact sheet said. Dooley wants the county to abate half of Panera's personal property taxes from the space in 10 years and abate sales tax on equipment purchases. Nearly 300 people would work there, and the company plans to add 200 jobs in the next five years, the fact sheet said.
