Some six-figure positions are available in overland and they're taking applications right now. The job announcement involves 350 spots that will be filled at a United States Department of Agriculture facility.
Anywhere from nearly $60,000 to more than $113,000 is being offered for many Army Corps of engineers jobs coming to Overland.
"It's actually so good of an idea it makes you wonder if the government even thought of it because it is and it makes sense," said Mayor Mike Schneider.
A facility at 9700 Page Avenue has long been used as a national personnel records center, now moving to Spanish Lake. The government is keeping the Page Avenue site open but with a new tenant.
The government is transferring workers from around the country to work in Overland, but applications are open to qualified applicants anywhere.
Among the jobs the Army Corp of Enginners will fill are high paying positions as biologists, engineers and architects. Alan Glen, the vice president of the Overland Business Association, says the new jobs will be a benefit to the entire community.
"Live, work and play in Overland is what we are looking for so again we are very excited," Glen said.
The USDA plans to begin opening the facility in a few months. Jobs are posted at www.usajobs.gov. Enter "agriculture" and "Overland, MO" in the search bar.
