Exports from the state of Missouri grew 18 percent in the first quarter to total $3.4 billion, with China and Korea leading the growth markets, according to World Trade Center Saint Louis.

That compares with $2.9 billion in last year's quarter.

Canada, Mexico, China and Korea continue to top the list of the Missouri's international markets.
The top products exported include: coal, pork, automobiles and chemicals.

"Missouri export growth in the first quarter of 2011 was on pace with the national average of 18 percent," said Tim Nowak, executive director of World Trade Center Saint Louis, in a statement. "We also continue to see explosive growth for Missouri products in Asian markets with China recording 35 percent export growth and Korea recording 100 percent export growth in the first quarter of 2011."

"Missouri's strong export performance in Asia provides the justification that our efforts to establish economic ties with China and the rest of Asia are a home-run strategy for Missouri companies and workers," St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley said in a statement with the data release.
World Trade Center Saint Louis is a division of St. Louis County Economic Council.
