In 1973, it was the pride of North St. Louis County, but Jamestown Mall later became a shell of its former self. Years of meetings and talking have now turned into a final plan about what is feasible at the Jamestown mall site.
Thursday night a crowd came out to hear the final plans that could become the new Jamestown Mall. Instead of the traditional mall site, a new idea calls for a mixed use village that can easily change based on economic needs and various pressures.
Experts say there are various challenges that will affect what actually happens at Jamestown, and how, soon. Challenges include the current economic downturn and the fact that there are several owners with a stake in the mall sites 142 acres.
"I hope it happens but I am not so sure about some of the changes they are talking about but I am looking forward to seeing what they do with it," said resident Donna Jones.
Right now no one is saying how soon any work could start on the revitalization project. One of the first and most important steps will be presenting this final plan to the county council for its approval.
