The St. Louis County Council this summer will consider adopting a plan for redeveloping the struggling 142-acre Jamestown Mall into a mostly residential, walkable neighborhood with parks and tree-lined streets, some offices and locally oriented stores. The effort could cost at least $300 million.
A consultant drafted the plan with advice from the public and last Thursday presented it to a community meeting that drew about 200 people.
"It is an opportunity to take something to developers," said Councilman Mike O'Mara, D-Florissant, who represents the area. "It is a blueprint."
The time the redevelopment would take depends on the economy, he said. Last week, County Executive Charlie Dooley called the document a 15-year plan.
Still operating in the mall on North Lindbergh Boulevard in North County are a Macy's department store, a JC Penney outlet, a movie theater and about two dozen stores.
