St. Louis University hosts U.N. Secretary General

Ban Ki-moon, the Secretary General of the United Nations, is in St. Louis today, discussing food safety and meeting with local political officials.

This morning, Ban met with, among others, Monsanto Co. and the Soy Bean Farmers Association, to address food security issues.

Later, he visited the Arch and had lunch with St. Louis County Executive Charlie A. Dooley.

At 4 p.m., Ban was expected at St. Louis University, headlining a talk on "Solving the World's Food and Security Problems."

Ban was also expected to meet Sens. Kit Bond and Claire McCaskill; Congressman Lacy Clay and Todd Akin; and Gov. Jay Nixon.

Ban, of South Korea, celebrates his 65th birthday Saturday. He took the helm of the U.N. in 2007.
