The first building of a new bio research campus was opened just a few minutes ago in Creve Coeur.
The new campus will be called BRDG Park, and the goal is to help researchers turn good ideas in the lab, into marketable products. BRDG stands for "Bio Research and Development Growth".
The building that opened today is 110,000 square feet and will provide lab and office space. It will cater to cutting edge companies with lots of new ideas, but not a lot of resources to pay for lab space.
Even before it opened this morning, the building was more than 60-percent leased. One of the new tennants will be St. Louis Community College and its bio technician training program.
Some tax credits were used to built the facility but it was mostly financed with private money.
When the campus is complete, it will more than triple in size and roughly 300 new permanent jobs are expected there.
