June 18, 2010 -- St. Louis County will ceremonially break ground on its Page-Olive Connector Project, Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at 10:30 a.m.

County Executive Charlie A. Dooley will speak at the event, as will representatives from United States Senator Claire McCaskill's and United States Congressman Todd Akin's offices.

The ceremony will be held on the west side of Maryland Heights Expressway, north of Water Works Road, at the northern tip of the project.

Officials say the $64 million Page-Olive Connector project - from a financial perspective, the biggest in St. Louis County's history - will substantially alleviate traffic congestion in the region by offering a six-lane alternative to I-270 and I-170. KCI Construction is performing the work, which is scheduled to be complete in 2012.

The 2.5-mile-long project will be partly funded by $20 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds, and $5 million each from the cities of Maryland Heights and Chesterfield.
