Bloomberg: 3 top performers in St. Louis
St. Louis Business Journal
July 7, 2010
Three St. Louis-based public companies made Bloomberg BusinessWeek's "50 Top Performers" list: Express Scripts, Monsanto Co. and Peabody Energy.
Bloomberg BusinessWeek calculated what an investment of $10,000 made March 31, 2005, would be worth five years later. The publication ranked the top-performing stocks in the Standard & Poor's 500 index; five-year total returns (with dividends reinvested in the security) were calculated and multiplied by the initial investment.
At No. 6: Pharmacy benefit manager Express Scripts (Nasdaq: ESRX), with a five-year return of 366.8 percent.
At No. 42: Monsanto Co. (NYSE: MON), with the agricultural tech firm showing a five-year return of 132.8 percent.
At No. 49: Peabody Energy (NYSE: BTU), the world's largest private-sector coal producer, with a five-year return of 116.6 percent.
Bloomberg BusinessWeek published its results June 17. Companies trading for less than five years were excluded. Returns were adjusted for stock splits and other capital changes that occurred during the period.
