County Partnership Announces RFQ for Chrysler Site Adaptive Reuse Study; Creation of Alternative Energy Research Park to be Studied

St. Louis, MO, July 27, 2010 - St. Louis County Economic Council, Missouri Department of Economic Development and City of Fenton are seeking submittal of qualifications from firms to analyze and develop strategies for creating a multi-use commercial, industrial research park and/or renewable alternative energy technology park on the site of the former Chrysler manufacturing plants in Fenton, MO. The scope of services also will include analysis and recommendations regarding business diversification and employment opportunities for businesses and workers in the St. Louis region that were significantly impacted by the closing of the Chrysler plants.
"St. Louis County has been hard at work researching and identifying emerging industries, resource-based clusters and other economic drivers that compete beyond local, state and national boundaries that may be a good fit for the site. A green alternative energy technology park may be the answer," said St. Louis County Executive Charlie A. Dooley. "The grant will help us further identify appropriate types of uses."
In May 2010, the United States Department of Commerce awarded a $1,575,000 Economic Adjustment and Planning Grant to the Economic Council, Missouri and Fenton to research and develop a strategic plan to diversify the economy and create jobs for the greater St. Louis region on the 300-acre site.
In accordance with federal guidelines, the County, State and Fenton partnered to contribute $525,000 to the Department of Commerce grant: The State contributed $262,500 through a Community Development Block Grant, and the County and Fenton each allocated $131,250. The grant totals $2.1 million.
