A measure was introduced at Tuesday's meeting of the St. Louis County Council to appropriate $750,000 for the Economic Council's 2011 Entrepreneurship, Job Creation and Economic Recovery initiative.

The Economic Council's spokeswoman, Katy Jamboretz, said $500,000 of the appropriation would go towards bond payments on the county's new Helix Center in Creve Coeur, a $7.5 million incubator for new businesses in the region's bioscience industry.

About $100,000 would go toward developing an East Asian trade desk to support the China hub project and to help businesses develop contacts with other Asian nations. Another $150,000 would fund development of a "virtual entrepreneurship" website for small and start-up businesses.

Also Tuesday, the council set an election for Nov. 8 for the disincorporation of the city of St. George. Last month, supporters of disincorporation secured the signatures of the requisite half of the city's roughly 850 voters needed to prompt the vote.
