St. Louis, MO, August 31, 2010 - With the operation of River City Casino successfully under way, St. Louis County through the Port Authority will begin to dole out a portion of lease payments received from River City to various organizations in the community of Lemay. Those entities receiving money submitted funding requests in June, and the Port Authority evaluated each application and allotted money from its Community Reinvestment Fund to seven organizations.
Award recipients include: Jefferson Barracks Heritage Foundation, Lemay Child and Family Center, Lemay Development Corporation, Lemay Housing Partnership, Missouri Civil War Heritage Foundation, Missouri Civil War Museum, and Lemay Baseball Association.
The purpose of the Community Reinvestment Fund is to support approved plans and comprehensive economic development studies, help local businesses expand, reinvest in our community, create jobs, and improve quality of life for St. Louis County residents.
"St. Louis County is committed to reinvesting funds aimed at creating new jobs, enhancing services
and redevelopment opportunities. The revenue from River City Casino allows us to do just that,"
said St. Louis County Executive Charlie A. Dooley.
Seventy-five percent of River City's lease payment will be reinvested in Lemay over the next five years (2015), while 25 percent will go toward other countywide community projects.
St. Louis County Executive Dooley will host a public event 11 a.m., Thursday, September 2 at Heine Meine Feild. He will recognize all awardees, and a representative from each organization will share remarks on how the funding will be used to enhance the community.
