Fenton's mayor sees interest heating up in the shuttered Chrysler plant property in his city.

However, the head of the St. Louis County Economic Council believes a bid already on the table could have what it takes to bring back to life a site where 6,000 people once came to work.

Mayor Dennis Hancock said he expects more bids to follow the one made public last week for the 290-acre site along Interstate 44 in Fenton.

He said he was basing his expectations on the number of inquiries he has received about the property in the past.

"This is prime retail space," he said. "I fully expect there will be a buyer in place - as we're being told by Capstone - by the end of the year."
