St. Louis, MO, September 1, 2010 - Speaking at today's St. Louis County Economic Council's Annual Meeting, President and CEO Denny Coleman stated that the County is currently in discussions with a consortium of local business developers interested in the former Chrysler Assembly Plant. The potential buyers have submitted an offer to purchase the property.

"St. Louis County Executive Charlie A. Dooley announced his vision for the property as an alternative and renewable energy technology and business park over a month ago. Today, an offer has been made to purchase the plant and to bring that vision to reality," said Coleman to a group of nearly 850 business and civic leaders.

"The U.S. Department of Energy is investing hundreds of millions of dollars across the country in support of energy-related high-tech companies working to reduce the U.S. dependence on foreign oil. This investment could attract further business opportunities while generating high-quality, good paying jobs in the greater St. Louis region," said Dooley.

The 290-acre site has sat vacant since Chrysler closed operations in the fall 2009. Since that time, St. Louis County, City of Fenton and the Missouri Department of Economic Development have teamed together execute a regional reinvestment strategy funded through the U.S. Department of Commerce.
