About 100 north St. Louis County residents gathered at St. Louis Community College-Florissant Valley Thursday night, to give developers ideas for what they think should be included in the redevelopment of Jamestown Mall.
The 100 were split up into tables of 8 to ten, and were given colored pens to draw out their plans on maps of the 142 acre property.
They were told that at this point, money and zoning were no obstacles, so they could dream big. and some did.
Some of the plans included an indoor aquarium, an indoor water park. A few also included 'New Town' type developments and senior housing.
One even included an IKEA store and an area marked, 'something big and inviting here.
Dover, Kohl and Partners Project Manager Pamela Stacy says some of the ideas will be used to develop the final proposal, "A lot of ideas are going to overlap, and that's where we start with what overlaps. Then we take the parts people don't agree on and start to see what of those really work and what doesn't."
Thursday night's "Hands-On Design Session" is just the first of a series of events where the public an weigh in on the development.
An Open Design Studio is being held Friday through Monday from 9:00 am to 7:00pm. You'll be able to talk with the design team and provide input.
An Open House is scheduled for Saturday from 10:30am to 12:00pm. You'll be able to view the design team's work-to-date and provide feedback.
Work-in-Progress Presentation will be held Tuesday from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The work completed during the week will be displayed.
All events are being held at the St. Louis Community College-Florissant Valley student center.
Stacy says they hope to issue a report on the plans, including the economics and implementation steps, drawn up by the end of the year.
