St. Louis County received $475,000 in federal funding to move forward with a planned Lemay Community Center.

St. Louis County Port Authority plans to issue a request for proposals for architectural/engineering design services for the project. The RFP will be available online next week.

The center will be located at Broadway and Kingston at the northern entrance of Jefferson Barracks Park and feature an outdoor aquatic area, gymnasium, running track, weight room, aerobic room, multi-purpose room, babysitting area, lounge space, concessions and locker rooms.

Las Vegas-based Pinnacle Entertainment contributed $5 million toward the construction of the community center through its contractual agreement with St. Louis County Port Authority and St. Louis County for the construction of its new River City Casino in Lemay. Over the next five years, 75 percent of River City's lease payment will be reinvested in Lemay.

"This is the next critical step in constructing a community center for the residents of Lemay," St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley said in a statement Tuesday. "The facility will have a multi-generational recreational appeal and provide meeting space for the community."
