A hundred new jobs will soon be available in St. Louis County, as Liberty Mutual Group and its national subsidiary, Safeco Insurance, invest $3 million into the local economy, Governor Jay Nixon said Wednesday.

To help create the jobs, the state government will provide Liberty Mutual with $1.6 million in incentives via the Missouri Quality Jobs Program.

According to the conditions of the program, a business must promise to create a certain number of jobs that pay wages higher than the county average and offer full health care benefits for its employees. In return, participating businesses are eligible to retain some of the withholdings taxes that would be paid to the state for those new jobs.
Liberty Mutual and Safeco will create the 100 new full-time jobs over the next two years, with an average salary of $52,000 per year.
