China hub subject of formal dinner in Washington

The Chinese Ambassador in Washington is hosting a formal dinner Thursday night with a who's-who of Missouri politicians to talk about one thing: the proposed china cargo hub at Lambert.

The dinner marks the one-year anniversary of the courtship dance.

Missouri Governor Jay Nixon, Senators Kit Bond and Claire McCaskill and the Missouri congressional delegation are all making the trip east.

"What a Chinese airline wants to know is that there's sufficient backhaul, basically things that they would fly out of St. Louis" and be sent back to China, China Hub Chairman Mike Jones says.

He predicts the deal will be formalized in a year.

"That kind of economic activity creates collateral economic activity, and, ultimately, jobs."
