New Clayton High Rise Targeted Along South Central Avenue

CLAYTON - St. Louis County and Montgomery Bank are seeking tenants for a high-rise building they would like to construct along South Central Avenue across from the county government center, Denny Coleman, president and chief executive officer of the economic council, told a caucus of the County Council on Tuesday.

The county and bank soon will distribute a one-page flier with information about the project and nearby amenities to 300 commercial brokers, real estate attorneys and developers, Coleman said.

The real estate market calls for "user driven development. I can't imagine any speculative space in the near future," Coleman said.

The high-rise office building would be L-shaped along South Central Center and then turn eastward at Carondelet Avenue to Bemiston Avenue. County officials last month delayed seeking a developer for the project because of the economic downturn. Once his agency and the bank find tenants, the project would move quickly, Coleman said.
