New Heart & Surgical Pavilion At St. Anthony’s

St. Anthony’s Medical Center recently opened a four-story, state-of-the-art facility which aims to bring nature into the hospital.

The hospital’s new Heart and Surgical Pavilion includes 64 patient rooms, a 16-bed surgical intensive care unit, 12 surgery suites and 34 same-day surgery rooms.

The boomerang-shaped addition, which is located on the south end of the hospital’s campus at 10010 Kennerly Road, includes a glass-enclosed “healing garden,” state of the art surgical equipment in each suite and LED lighting.

Canon Design architects, Spellman Brady and Co. interior designers and a team of 74 St. Anthony’s physicians and 350 employees designed the facility, which was under construction for two years.

The design incorporates a style known as biophilia, which focuses on bringing elements of nature into the healing process by including softer, more natural LED lighting, providing garden views from every floor and integrating natural colors and textures throughout the hospital.

The Heart and Surgical Pavilion is part of a $90 million renovation of the hospital which is expected to be complete in spring 2010.
