St. Louis Community College wins federal training grant

St. Louis Community College was awarded a $1.19 million grant by the U.S. Department of Labor to provide job training in the aerospace industry, the federal agency said recently.

The grant was awarded through the Community-Based Job Training Grants Initiative. The Department of Labor awarded nearly $123 million to 68 community colleges and community-based organizations in 36 states that competed in a competitive application process that began in October.

St. Louis Community College was among 274 applicants for the awards, and the only awardee in the St. Louis metro area.

Community-Based Job Training Grants are made to improve the ability of community colleges to provide their regions’ workers with the skills needed to enter growing industries.

St. Louis Community College, the largest community college district in Missouri, has four campuses: Florissant Valley, Forest Park, Meramec and Wildwood.
