Craig Owens named city manager for Clayton, Mo.
The city of Clayton announced Wednesday that Craig Owens was appointed as its new city manager, effective July 1.
A native of Overland Park, Kan., Owens has been city manager for Rowlett, Texas, since 2005.
He succeeds former Clayton City Manager Mike Schoedel, who left in February to take a position with Apex Oil Co.
Owens' more than 17 years in city management includes stints as city administrator for O'Fallon, Ill., from 1999 to 2002 and as assistant city manager in Hazelwood, Mo., from 1994 to 1999.
As Clayton's city manager, Owens will oversee seven different departments with 180 full-time employees, and an annual budget of more than $37 million.
Clayton's six-month search for a city manager generated more than 50 applications from across the country, according to a release from the city.
