The Land Clearance for Redevelopment Authority of the County of St. Louis, in cooperation with the City of Wellston, is leading a comprehensive redevelopment effort that is generating economic and social benefits that are strengthening this North County community and ultimately the St. Louis region. The Wellston Redevelopment Corporation is administering the redevelopment plan that encompasses the entire city. Redevelopment activities include strategic business/light industrial development of abandoned or underutilized former manufacturing facilities, new housing, commercial development, installation of infrastructure and community amenities.
Key Projects
New Housing Construction
Nearly 120 new housing units built since 1999 with an additional 60 expected by 2007.
The MET Center (Metropolitan Education and Training Center)
Job training and education in advanced manufacturing, diesel mechanics, licensed practical nursing and construction trades.
Plymouth Industrial Park
Approximately 13-acre property located at 6440 Page adjacent to MetroLink stop and MET Center improved with new street, lighting and landscaping and offering qualified employers pad-ready sites from 2.4 acres.
Wellston Industrial Park
Development of a 24-acre light industrial park between Page Avenue and Dr. Martin Luther King.
St. Louis Enterprise Centers-Wellston
Small business incubator which supports new businesses and creates new jobs
Child Development Center
Design and construction of a childcare facility.
Wellston Neighborhood Park

Jennings
Northland Redevelopment Area
SLCEC is working with the City of Jennings and the Sansone Group, the developer, to revitalize the approximately 67-acre former Northland Shopping Center. A newly constructed 50,000-square-foot state office building has been opened on site along with a new Aldi's grocery store. Target and Schnucks have committed to be anchor tenants for the new retail development.
River Roads Shopping Center – Blighting and Redevelopment
River Roads Shopping Center is being converted to more than 200 single-family homes ($150K - $210K) and neighborhood retail development and a new city hall for the City of Jennings.
Alexandria Place – New Housing Development
Alexandria Place development of over 200 single-family homes in the $180K to $300K range.
Jennings Station Road / Theodore Road Redevelopment Area
SLCEC is administering the right-of-way acquisition project to reconfigure Jennings Station Road at the I-170 interchange. By accelerating these roadway improvements SLCEC will enable the RPM Development Group to proceed with a $18.7 million retail center including sit-down restaurants, hotel, automotive care center and convenience shopping. LCRA/Chapter 353 Redevelopment Project - Spot Blighting
SLCEC works with private developers targeting select abandoned or underutilized properties. Tax abatement is provided under Chapter 353 which helps to facilitate redevelopment of these sites.
