Life Sciences Mid-West County Development

St. Louis County recognizes the emergence of the new Life Science industry as an opportunity for our region to become a gateway for this century's technology-driven economy. With the development of the Danforth Plant Science Center, the Nidus Center for Scientific Enterprise and the location of Monsanto World Headquarters concentrated in Midwest St. Louis County, the County has an outstanding opportunity to develop this area into a life science industry cluster.

With a $2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration, SLCEC is strengthening the environment for biotech "startup" companies in the life sciences industry. The grant will be used to partially fund the development of a new post-incubator mutli-tenant lab/office facility on eight acres adjacent to the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center campus in central St. Louis County. This facility will ensure the region retains rapidly growing companies that are ready to graduate from incubator space.

Lindbergh Corridor Study

SLCEC, in collaboration with the cities of Bridgeton, Creve Coeur, Maryland Heights and St. Ann, is completing a study of the Lindbergh Corridor from Olive Boulevard north to Interstate 70.   The study will review the condition of retail, industrial and other existing commercial activities in order to determine the potential for increased employment and to make recommendations concerning strategies to boost economic activities within the corridor based on land use, zoning, market needs and enhanced infrastructure improvements.
