About SLCEC

SLCEC Mission

To lead in the development and growth of long-term diversified business and employment opportunities by creating innovative solutions that generate increased wealth and enhanced quality of life for the citizens, businesses and institutions of St. Louis County and our region.

SLCEC History

In 1984, St. Louis County government consolidated a handful of small agencies to form St. Louis County Economic Council, which serves as the county's economic development agency. Part public entity and part private sector, the Economic Council was created to drive growth and prosperity in the most economically important county in Missouri.

Since its inception, the Economic Council has grown to provide a broader range of services than most agencies of its kind. With divisions that support small business success, attract and retain corporations, increase the region's international reach, and revitalize municipalities, today's Economic Council is a key facilitator of regional growth for businesses and communities within St. Louis County and the metropolitan area.

Accredited Economic Development Organization

aedoSt. Louis County Economic Council is proud to have earned the distinguished title, Accredited Economic Development Organization (AEDO) from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC). The accreditation, which was awarded May 2009 at the Economic Council's 25th anniversary Annual Meeting, signifies the professional excellence of economic development entities throughout North America.

The Economic Council is the only economic development agency in the State of Missouri to hold the esteemed accreditation and one of only 23 other economic development organizations in the country.
