City of Wellston
The Land Clearance for Redevelopment Authority of the County of St. Louis (LCRA), in cooperation with the City of Wellston, has created a comprehensive redevelopment effort responsible for generating new commercial and residential development as well as new community amenities and infrastructure in the small inner-ring suburban community.
LCRA and multiple public and private partners have invested nearly $79 million in the community, which has resulted in new housing and training programs, infrastructure improvements and new and expanding businesses. Redevelopment has included acquiring property, demolishing derelict structures, remediating brownfield sites, and installing infrastructure.
Significant projects within Wellston include:
- St. Louis Enterprise Center, a small business incubator
- Metropolitan Education and Training Center, a regional workforce training facility
- Construction of over 100 new homes
- A neighborhood park with Cardinals Care Foundation baseball field
- Plymouth Industrial Park, redevelopment of the former Wagner Electric property to a 13-acre pad-ready site
- Wellston Industrial Park, 24-acre redevelopment of the former ABEX Foundry site
- Secured $5 million toward construction of a child-care facility
