Jefferson Barracks

Jefferson BarracksEstablished in 1826, Jefferson Barracks served as the country's first Infantry School of Practice, first Army Air Corps basic training camp and was the site of the first successful parachute jump from an airplane. It was a major military installation until 1946, playing an important role in westward expansion, serving as a gathering point for troops and supplies bound for service.

St. Louis County Economic Council spearheaded an award-winning master plan that includes a number of improvements to the 1,000-acre complex, which includes a St. Louis County park, national cemetery, veterans hospital, and active military post. The master plan will reposition the 184-year-old military complex into a national attraction and an economic engine for South County and the region.
